Hello everyone!
We have been so busy learning in Room 6. On behalf of our class, I apologize for not blogging for quite some time. Here is an updated picture of the kids. I am hoping to get up and blogging more regularly until the end of the year!

Word Work

We just started Word Work this week in our classroom.
Students are practicing sight words for the first few weeks to get into the routine of Word Work jobs.

This week the words we are practicing are :
One     Two     Three     Four     Five     Six

Each day the students pick a job off of their bingo card and write the words. Every week the students will get new words to practice. Every month or so the jobs on the bingo card will change as well.

Happy Spelling! :)

Spiders

We have been learning and growing so much in the last month in Room 6. For the past few weeks we have been basing many of our lessons around Spiders.

Here is a quick peek into some of the spider activities we have been doing in class:

Our new read aloud is Charlotte's Web. Charlotte is a very special spider who makes amazing webs with messages in them. Charlotte is writing the messages in her web because she is trying to save Wilbur, her pig friend's, life!

"We make predictions when we are reading about what is going to happen next."

"Ms. McIntyre sometimes uses funny voices for the different characters - like the goose!"

When we finish reading novels we like to watch the movie and talk about the similarities and differences. (We get to have popcorn with our movies!)

This is our new bookshelf on the carpet area to keep our themed books. We use them to find information or look at during Daily 5 or Choice Time.

This is our Spider Fact Flip book. When we learn something new about spiders we jot our ideas down in the correct category.

This was a math activity. It is like number of the day except you use the spiders legs to represent your number. We displayed our math on the hallway bulletin board for everyone to see.

Here are a few examples:

Jets Practice - Oct 21

We were so lucky to be invited to the Jets practice at the MTS Centre on October 21st. This was the first time that many students had been to the MTS centre. We had juice and Timbits and watched the players skate and pass the puck.

"Evander Kane is the fastest skater in the world!"
"Big Buff took a slap shot at the glass right where we were sitting! I screamed!"
"The goalies waved hi!"
"Olli Jokinen kept bumping the glass to make our juice boxes fall off"
"I hope I can play on the Jets one day!"

The boys with their treats!

Waiting patiently for the Jets to come out on the ice.

Mick. E. Moose even came to say hi!

Watching Coach Noel teach the players a drill

"Evander Kane is the fastest skater in the world"

The Jets!

Team Turkey

We had a very busy week at school. We called it "Team Turkey" week.

On Monday morning, Ms. McIntyre told us we had to "apply" to be on Team Turkey.

We worked hard all week and everyone was officially accepted onto the team! Way to go Room 6 Turkeys!

On Friday afternoon we made turkey candy apples before the Turkey Trot with Mrs. Lamoureux.

This was a turkey math job this week. We had to create 2 different repeating patterns using pattern blocks.

These are the turkeys we made by using our hands and feet. We traced one foot on brown paper to make the body and traced our hand 5 times to make the feathers. Add some 'googley' eyes, a beak and a wattle and the turkey is complete!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Dot Week

Last week we celebrated "Dot" week in our classroom. We read "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds.
Each day of the week we celebrated the story in a different way.

On Monday, September 16, we read the story and created our own dots using coffee filters. We coloured the filters with water colour markers and then sprayed them with water.

Here are a few examples:

On Tuesday, we watched a youtube version of "The Dot".

On Wednesday, we did a writing activity. Ms. McIntyre gave us a blank dot and we had to think outside the box to turn our dot into something different.

These are a few examples of our creations:

On Thursday and Friday, we used dots to make a painting. We used a pencil to write our first initial of our first names and dotted the initial with crayon. The next day we had to make watercolour circles overtop of the crayons.

"Dot" week was a lot of FUN!
